Human remains found in vehicle in Lake Powell September 3; additional fatality September 8

During Labor Day weekÂend 2025, individuals recÂreating on Lone Rock Beach within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area found what appeared to be a vehicle in the water just below the visible water line. On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, National Park Service personnel from Glen Canyon National RecÂreation Area located and confirmed it was a vehicle. They were able to idenÂtify the vehicle from the VIN number on the dash. Records show the vehicle belonging to Dennis Keith Dillinger.

Page Arizona Police DeÂpartment has an open missing person case on 54-year-old Mr. Dillinger. The last known sighting of Dillinger was at the Family Dollar Store in Kanab Utah on December 1, 2023.
On Wednesday SeptemÂber 3, 2025, the vehicle was extracted from the water. Human remains located in the vehicle were transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and further investigation into the cause of death.
This is still an open and ongoing investigation. Kane County Sheriff’s OfÂfice will be handling the death investigation. Kane County offers their gratiÂtude to the National Park Service Rangers, support staff, and dive team from Glen Canyon National RecÂreation Area, and the Page Arizona Police Department for the many hours of work on this case and assistance with recovery of the vehicle.

Just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, Kane County SherÂiff’s Dispatch received a 911 call about a 32-year-old male from Arizona who had jumped from an upper deck of a houseboat and had not re-surfaced on the north side of Wahweep Bay which is located in Kane County Utah. Personnel from Kane County Sheriff’s office, Utah Department of NatuÂral Resources, and National Park Service responded to the scene.
The individual, CamÂeron Mengarelli of Prescott Ariz., was located early Sunday morning by divers from the Glen Canyon NaÂtional Recreation area in about 17 feet of water. MenÂgarelli was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office in Salt Lake City.
