Windows smashed at Brown Box in overnight vandalism

A popular Kanab small business was damaged overnight after multiple windows were broken in what appears to be a de­liberate act of vandalism.

The owners of Brown Box reported that sometime during the night of Janu­ary 5–6, rocks were thrown through several of the shop’s windows, shattering glass and causing visible damage to the storefront. The incident was discov­ered the following morning and shared publicly by the owners in a social media post.


Photos posted online show multiple broken panes along the front of the build­ing. The owners described feeling “heavy-hearted” about the incident, noting that the damage appeared intentional rather than accidental. No injuries were reported.


As of press time, no de­tailed information had been released by law enforce­ment regarding suspects, arrests or a possible mo­tive. The Southern Utah News has reached out to local authorities and will update this story if addi­tional information becomes available.



The incident prompted a strong response from the Kanab community, with residents expressing frus­tration and concern over the damage to a locally owned business. Numerous com­ments online offered words of support and encourage­ment for the owners, with some community members calling for accountability and others emphasizing the importance of support­ing local businesses in the wake of the damage.


Brown Box is a well-known fixture in downtown Kanab, and the vandalism drew swift attention across social media platforms, where residents shared the post widely and voiced disappointment that such an incident occurred in the community.


Anyone with information related to the vandalism is encouraged to contact local law enforcement. Repairs to the damaged windows were expected to move forward as quickly as possible, though the cost and extent of re­pairs had not been publicly detailed.
