VIRGIN, Utah - A new park-and-ride shuttle service aimed at reducing congestion near Zion National Park opened March 1 in Virgin, offering visitors an alternative to driving into the busy Springdale corridor.

The Zion Corridor Park & Ride is located at Zion White Bison Resort and provides free parking with a $5 one-way shuttle connection into Springdale. From there, visitors can access the Zion Canyon Shuttle system inside the park. The service operates Monday through Saturday with limited Sunday service, typically running on an hourly schedule.
Local and regional officials say the effort is designed to ease traffic along State Route 9 while preparing for new vehicle restrictions set to take effect this summer. Beginning June 7, large vehicles, including many RVs and trailers, will face limitations on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway, one of the park’s primary east-west routes.
The Virgin location gives those travelers a place to park before reaching restricted areas, while also offering an option for visitors looking to avoid long waits and limited parking in Springdale.
The park-and-ride is a partnership between the Town of Virgin, Zion White Bison Resort, SunTran and the Greater Zion Convention & Tourism Office. Organizers describe it as part of a broader, long-term strategy to manage growing visitation to Zion, which continues to draw millions of visitors each year.
Traffic congestion has become a recurring issue during peak seasons, with vehicles often backing up for miles along SR-9 through Springdale and into surrounding communities. By shifting some of that traffic to shuttle service earlier in the corridor, officials hope to improve both access and the visitor experience.
Whether the new service significantly reduces congestion may depend on how widely it is adopted, particularly by RV travelers and day visitors entering the park from the west.
