Orderville Town Park project to hire civil engineer

The Orderville Town Board met at the town offices on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Board members Marianne Leigh, Shaun Sharkey, Rory Hatch and Susan Esplin were in attendance. Mayor Lyle Goulding called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Minutes from the previous meeting and bills presented for payment were unanimously approved.
Trey Riser from TEXTMYGOV, an online platform that allows municipalities to text residents for emergency notifications and other uses, provided a remote demonstration of the service for the town board. After some discussion, a decision about next steps was tabled until the August meeting.
A zone change from Agricultural to Agricultural Residential for Parcel 0-4-2C Annex requested by Forrest and Susannah Barnard was unanimously approved, as were a $2500 donation to the Leon Brinkerhoff Team Roping event taking place on August 23 at the North Event Center, and a business license for Alicia Burnham and Rising Sun Horse Service.
A bid from Spencer Asphalt for repair and patches on Center Street was unanimously approved, and a decision on changing the town logo was tabled for further discussion.
A lengthy discussion around progress with the new town park, specifically around the need for a better understanding of the amount and cost of fill needed for leveling and expanding the space for an additional ballfield, resulted in a unanimous decision to hire a civil engineer to consult on the project before moving forward.
Finally, the board addressed a written complaint about debris and other items blocking the public right of way located at 109 W 100 S. After a spirited discussion between the neighbors and the property owner, Town Board member and Mayoral Candidate Shaun Sharkey, Mayor Lyle Goulding stated that a notification requiring a clean-up of the area, and a deadline for completion of the clean-up, would be written and sent to the property owner immediately.
A motion to adjourn at 8:41 p.m. was unanimously approved by the board.
