One airlifted after head-on crash near Big Water May 27

BIG WATER — One perÂson was airlifted in serious condition following a head-on crash May 27 on U.S. Highway 89 near Big Water in Kane County, according to Utah Highway Patrol information published by regional media.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. near mile marker 25 on U.S. 89, according to UHP Lt. Cameron Roden.
Reports stated an eastÂbound Jeep Wrangler crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Camaro. The collision reportedly pushed the Camaro off the roadway while the disabled Jeep remained in the roadÂway, blocking traffic.
Roden told the outlets there were two occupants in each vehicle. Both ocÂcupants of the Camaro were injured. The drivÂer was transported by ground ambulance with what were described as non-life-threatening injuÂries, while the passenger was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition.
The two occupants of the Jeep were not believed to have sustained serious injuries, according to the reports.
Both directions of U.S. 89 were closed for apÂproximately two hours while emergency crews responded, treated the inÂjured and investigated the crash scene. The roadway later reopened.
Local law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel and Intermountain Health Flight & Ambulance SerÂvices assisted the Utah Highway Patrol.
As of publication, the UHP had not issued a public news release regarding the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
