No Kings protest draws peaceful turnout in Kanab

KANAB, Utah — A locally organized “No Kings” protest on Saturday drew an estimated 150 to 200 participants along U.S. Highway 89, part of a broader day of demonstrations held across Utah and the country. Nationally, organizers and media reports indicated millions of participants took part in coordinated events across the United States, with additional demonstrations reported internationally.

Participants were spread along the highway from the Hospital Thrift Store to Parry Lodge, with most gathered in front of the Kanab Center, holding signs and waving to passing traffic during the early afternoon. The event, along with similar protests held in Kanab this year, was organized by local group Community Hope, which also hosted a voter registration booth throughout the afternoon.

The gathering remained peaceful, with no visible law enforcement issues or disruptions reported.

The Kanab turnout reflected a rural-scale version of larger pro-tests held in cities such as St. George, Cedar City and Moab, where attendance numbers were significantly higher. In Kanab, the gathering featured a mix of locally made signs and messaging consistent with the national “No Kings” theme of opposition to authoritarianism and support for constitutional government.

Similar protests have been held in Kanab this year, typically scheduled in the afternoon. Saturday’s protest followed that pattern, and for a few hours on March 28, a stretch of Kanab’s main corridor provided a visible expression of the ongoing national debate around political power and the role of checks and balances.
