Motorcyclist killed in Kane County crash with tour bus

BIG WATER — A 45-yearold motorcyclist was killed Monday evening in a collision with a tour bus near the Utah-Arizona border, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The crash occurred at about 5:40 p.m., on May 25, on SR-89 near the Utah- Arizona border in Kane County. DPS reported a Yamaha motorcycle and a Vanhool tour bus were both traveling northbound when the collision occurred.
According to a DPS news release, the motorcycle pulled onto the right shoulder, slowed, and then began a left U-turn into the path of the approaching bus. Authorities stated the motorcycle was struck by the front driver’s side of the bus. The motorcyclist was ejected and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The rider’s identity had not been released as of Tuesday, pending notification of family members.
The bus driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries and later released. Two passengers aboard the bus reported minor injuries but were not transported. The bus was carrying 29 occupants at the time of the crash.
KSL.com reported the passengers were tourists from the United Kingdom who were traveling toward Kanab.
Traffic in the area was affected for several hours while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene. One lane remained closed for about five hours during the investigation.
