“We had a great ceremony this weekend; we honored a veteran of World War Two who is interred in the Kanab Cemetery … I don’t think there was a dry eye there when we were done,” said Joe Lamica, Commander of the Kane County area’s American Legion Post 69.

The late Winsor Adams Asay, born and raised in Kanab and currently interred at the Kanab Cemetery, was chosen to represent the sort of men and women honored by Memorial Day services. Asay was given the Purple Heart as a Private and was honored on this Memorial Day with the customary flag and wreath given to all veterans’ graves, as well as by the telling of his story by Commander Lamica.
The national anthem was performed by local students, and the Canyon Singers provided musical numbers in honor of the event.
Multiple attendees of the event commented expressing their appreciation for the Memorial Day and local leadership praised the event.
