KANAB — Kane County Republicans gathered Saturday at the Kanab Center for the party’s county nominating convention, where delegates narrowed several local races ahead of the June 23 primary election.

Party officials said all 70 delegates from across Kane County were in attendance, giving the convention full county representation.
The convention is used to help determine which Republican candidates advance to the ballot in contested races. This year, only two county contests required delegate action: county clerk/auditor and County Commission Seat B.
In the race for County Commission Seat B, incumbent Celeste Meyeres and challenger Matthew LeGrand Cox advanced, setting up a June primary contest.
For county clerk/ auditor, incumbent Chameill Lamb and opponent Martin Hepworth moved forward to the primary ballot.
Kelly Lamb, who had also filed in the Seat B race, was eliminated during the convention process.
Uncontested Republican races include Jeff Stott for county attorney and Tracy Glover for county sheriff. The race for Commission Seat A was resolved when incumbent Patty Kubeja’s opponent withdrew before voting took place.
Several state and federal officeholders and candidates addressed delegates during the event, including US Representative Celeste Maloy. Utah Representative Logan Monson also spoke to the group.
Primary election ballots are expected to be mailed several weeks before the June 23 election date. Candidates from other political parties, as well as unaffiliated candidates who qualify, will appear on the general election ballot in November. The November ballot will also include uncontested school board races.
