The energy was electric as students from Beaver, Enterprise, Parowan, South Sevier, Millard and Kanab came together for the two-day Region competition. Over the two-day event, students enjoyed reuniting with friends from other schools, line dancing, improv activities, team meals and singing show tunes! When it came time to compete, the focus changed to a friendly intensity as actors focused on rehearsing their pieces in preparation to compete for placings in eight different categories.

KHS Theatre was well prepared and ready to play, which became obvious as the competition progressed. Nineteen of the twenty-four entries that KHS Theatre brought to competition were advanced from regular rounds to the medal rounds. A phenomenal team achievement! But that would only be one of the achievements KHS Theatre would achieve at this competition.
The One Act Team, sharing a poignant performance of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, from the book by Kate DiCamillo and adapted for the stage by Dwayne Hartford, was awarded second place! Additional One Act awards given by the judges included: Best Set/Technicians and Best Ensemble.
Medalists for the competition were - Musical Theatre Category: First - Brenden Donoho, Allison Corry & Willis Wulfenstein with Danika Davis as technician; Second - Mikayl Jones, Clarissa Bowman with Mikkel Jones as technician Pantomime Category for a clean sweep in Medal Rounds! First - Leela Alldridge, Charity Bowman (Their second year in a row in winning First place!). Second - McKayla Ainge, Alyssa Mosdell. Third - Mya Capson, Summer Swensen, Kaidee Clarkson. Humorous Monologue Category: Second - Lucas Downward; Third - Abigail Van Dyke. Dramatic Monologue Category: Second - Paola Yescas; Third - Brenden Donoho. KHS Theatre had thirty-two student participants and every one of them qualified for State competition; an absolutely incredible accomplishment.
Finally, the cherry on top, was the moment when Kanab High School Theatre ecstatically received their Region Championship Trophy, this being their fourth year in a row! The points gap between Kanab High School and Enterprise (the second-place winner) was over 570 points!
Congratulations to the entire KHS Theatre team! Next stop, State Competition, April 9, 10 and 11, at Parowan High School in Parowan, Utah.
