Fredonia Schools celebrate Spelling Bee champions
On October 5, 2026, Fredonia Schools came together for an exciting evening as students competed in the School-Wide Spelling Bee Competition. Winners from each grade level, third through eighth grade, took the stage ready to spell their hearts out and compete for the championship trophy.

The spelling bee brought together the winners from each participating grade level. Representing their classes were Tyce Marshall from third grade, Breckyn Grover from fourth grade, Journey Tom from fifth grade, Lily Hamlin and Josiah Chacon from sixth grade, Honor Meng and Roberto De La Torre Valenzuela from seventh grade and Emberlyn Wilmarth from eighth grade.
As the competition began, you could feel both the excitement and nervousness in the room. One by one, the students stepped up to the microphone, listened carefully to each word and did their best to spell it correctly. Every round became more exciting as the competition continued.
After seven rounds of spelling, three students earned the top spots. Breckyn Grover finished in first place and became our School-Wide Spelling Bee Champion. Honor Meng earned second place, while Josiah Chacon finished in third place.
Fredonia Schools is very proud of every student who participated in this year’s competition. Standing on a stage in front of an audience is not easy, and competing in a spelling bee takes more than knowing how to spell. It takes confidence, focus, courage and perseverance. Each of our participants showed all of these qualities that night.
To all of our participants, congratulations! Whether you went home with a trophy or not, stepping onto that stage and representing your class was already an accomplishment worth celebrating. You faced your nerves, conquered your stage fright and gave it your best.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our pronouncer, Mr. Guy Finicum and to our wonderful judges, Summer Tait, Dusty Tait and Serena Cutchen, who generously gave their time to help make the competition possible.
A special thank you also goes to our school administrators for their unending support. Activities like this would not be possible without the people who work together behind the scenes. We are especially grateful to Tammi Tisi, Wendy Larson, Colby Button, Amber Button, Juvyl Ihong and Nanette Russel for their time, effort and help in making this year’s School- Wide Spelling Bee a success. Thank you for being part of this memorable night for our students!
To Breckyn Grover, our 2026 School-Wide Spelling Bee Champion, your spelling journey is not over yet! Breckyn will represent Fredonia Schools at the Coconino County Spelling Bee Competition in Flagstaff.
Breckyn, we are already proud of you! As you prepare to take on a bigger stage, remember to enjoy the experience, believe in yourself and give it your very best.
Congratulations once again to Breckyn, Honor, Josiah and all of our amazing spelling bee participants. You made Fredonia Schools proud!
