Kanab City reminds residents of Pioneer Day fireworks rules

Kanab City officials are reminding residents and visitors to celebrate Pioneer Day safely by following local fireworks restrictions and using caution during the holiday.

After reviewing current fire conditions, weather forecasts and available firefighting resources, Mayor Colten Johnson and Fire Chief Brett Pierson determined that the city’s existing fireworks discharge map will remain in effect for the Pioneer Day holiday. Officials noted that recent rainfall has improved conditions but urged residents to use extra caution, particularly during windy weather.

The Kanab City Fire Department has scheduled additional staffing throughout the holiday to respond quickly if needed.

Fireworks may be discharged from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 22, 23 and 25, and from 11 a.m. to midnight on July 24, but only within Kanab City’s approved discharge areas. Fireworks are prohibited in city parks, at schools and on other public property.

City officials also encourage residents to keep water nearby, avoid using fireworks near dry vegetation, properly extinguish and dispose of spent fireworks and clean up debris before leaving the area. Anyone who starts or discovers a fire should move to a safe location and call 911 immediately. Residents can review the approved fireworks discharge map at kanab.utah.gov.
