This week, Kanab’s western roots will take center stage at the Jacob Hamblin Days Rodeo, a lively three-day festival celebrating pioneer spirit, community pride, and cowboy culture. Running June 26 - 28, 2025, at the Kaneplex Arena, the event honors early settler Jacob Hamblin while welcoming locals and visitors alike to take part in one of Southern Utah’s most cherished traditions.

Organizers say this year’s celebration is all about inclusion and community involvement - and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

“This isn’t just for rodeo professionals,” said one event coordinator. “Whether you’ve got a horse or not, whether you’re competing or just coming to watch, Jacob Hamblin Days is a celebration for the whole community.”

Three days of rodeo action for all ages

The festival kicks off on Thursday, June 26, with the Youth Rodeo at 7 p.m. Sign-ups begin at 5:30 p.m., and organizers are especially encouraging kids who don’t have horses to join the fun. Special events have been added specifically for non-riders, making sure every child has a chance to participate.

Friday, June 27, brings a full slate of events, starting with the Rascal Rodeo from 10 to 11 a.m., designed for individuals with disabilities. At 9 a.m., attendees can enjoy a horsemanship demonstration by local expert Mike Henrie, followed by Team Sorting at 6 p.m. and Barrel Racing at 7 p.m.

Saturday, June 28, wraps up the weekend with a packed schedule:

  • Barrel Racing - 8 a.m.

  • Breakaway Roping - 9 a.m.

  • Team Roping – 10 a.m.

  • Ranch Rodeo – 7 p.m. ($5 admission; children 6 and under free)

Free fun and family-friendly atmosphere

Most events are free to the public, with the exception of the Ranch Rodeo, and students receive free admission with a paying adult. The weekend will also feature concessions available on-site, offering classic rodeo fare and local favorites to keep everyone fueled for the fun. The festival includes plenty of spectator events, making it a perfect outing for families, seniors, and anyone looking to enjoy Kanab’s western heritage.

More than a rodeo - it’s a community celebration

“Jacob Hamblin Days is a chance to come together as a community,” said one volunteer. “Whether you’re riding, roping, helping out, or just watching from the stands with your kids and neighbors, you’re part of it.”

The event is sponsored by Kane County, KCOT and MANY local business sponsors, would need a new article just for the list, with strong support from local volunteers, ranchers, and families.
