Nomad Cafe to close permanently Feb. 22

Nomad Kanab Cafe & Campground, a long-time local gathering spot known for live music, open mic nights and its welcoming, community-centered atmosphere, will close permanently on Sunday, February 22, according to owner Jason Sander.

Located just outside Kanab, Nomad built a loyal following as an informal venue for music, conversation and creative events, drawing both locals and visitors. Over the years, it became a familiar stop for community gatherings and performances, often described by regulars as a second home.

“We are not going out in sorrow; instead, we are going out in celebration,” Sander said. “This is our chance to say goodbye in a way that honors what Nomad was to so many of us.”

The café has been closed for regular business during the winter, but has continued hosting scheduled events as part of a planned wind-down leading up to the final closure.

Several farewell events remain on the calendar. A Bazaar, Open Mic and Potluck is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, followed by a storage unit items sale on Friday and Saturday, February 14 -15, featuring larger items from the café, campground and related spaces.

Another Bazaar, Open Mic and Potluck will be held Thursday, February 19, leading into a curated weekend of music, presentations and workshops from Friday through Sunday, February 20 - 22, timed to coincide with Balloons and Tunes.

Sander said the final days are intended as a communal send-off rather than a quiet ending.

“A gathering place. A second home. An invitation to embrace our inner child,” he said, describing what Nomad has meant to those who spent time there.

The final celebration and closing ceremony will take place Sunday, February 22, marking the end of Nomad’s current chapter after years as a creative and communal hub for the area.
