In June, 45 girls in Kane County between the ages of eight - 18, attended an all-girls STEM Camp.
STEM is one of the fastest-growing careers, and women are vastly underrepresented in this field. Research has shown that young girls and women participating in female-only STEM programs have a higher rate of engagement and retention. More and more women are finding success in this highly sought out career path from early exposure and a welcoming environment by female instructors.
Girls were able to design and make 3-D molds, stickers, LED bags, laser-cut jewelry, and code with Python, Spheros and robotics at the camp. Thanks to a generous grant through The Community Foundation of Utah from Three Corners Women’s Giving Circle, the camp was free for each girl participating.
Thank you to Kane County 4H for planning and putting on the camp in their amazing Makerspace and to the many volunteers who helped make this camp a success. This camp was such a great experience for all the girls and instructors, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
