FREDONIA — This school year, Fredonia students demonstrated that learning extends far beyond the classroom by giving back to their community through meaningful service projects.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, our fifth-grade students transformed broken glassware into handcrafted flower vases for their mothers. What might have been discarded became treasured keepsakes, as students carefully designed and assembled unique pieces with creativity, patience and love. The project not only encouraged artistic expression but also reminded students that the most meaningful gifts are often those made with their own hands.
As the school year came to a close, those same students, plus the third and fourth graders, rolled up their sleeves once again - this time to help improve their school campus. Students spent time painting curbing around the school, taking pride in helping maintain a welcoming and attractive environment for everyone who visits.
These projects reflect a larger commitment throughout our schools to foster a culture of service. While academic achievement remains a top priority, we also believe in developing compassionate, responsible citizens who understand the value of giving back. Service learning opportunities help students build teamwork, responsibility, creativity and pride in their community while strengthening the connections between our schools and the families we serve.
We are proud of our students for demonstrating that acts of kindness and service - whether creating a gift for a loved one, improving their school or supporting a community celebration - can make a meaningful difference. Their willingness to serve reminds us that education is not only about preparing students for successful careers but also about preparing them to become thoughtful, engaged citizens who positively impact the communities they call home.
