Summer reading has officially started, so start counting your minutes and hours of reading. Remember audiobooks, graphic novels, newspaper/ magazines (online or physical) and more all count! Drop by the library or come to one of our upcoming events if you want a paper tracker and swag bag, or you can download the Reader Zone app and input the Fredonia Library code 990c4 after logging in.

Our first event was held May 27; Jazmin Jordan Lister is a young independent author with her newest book just out. She’s granddaughter of previous Fredonia Mayor Joy Jordan and teacher Benny Jordan, and we heard about her journey to writing and publishing. Her books are available at the library and on Libby for those who want to check it out that way. Cathy Chell has graciously offered to make us yummy baked treats to munch on while we hear Jazmin’s story.
Next in line is our Summer Reading Kick-off party on June 1. Purposely scheduled on International Dinosaur Day so we can coordinate with our Summer Reading theme “Unearth a Story.” From 5-7 p.m. the BLM paleontology group will teach about fossils, as well as crafting our own fossils at the Fredonia Town Park. There will be “T-rex Tacos” and “Fossil Ice Pops” on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone is welcome!
We’ve got a teen and adult-only painting class on June 4, at 5 p.m. We’ll be working with alcohol ink which is great for beginners and advanced artists alike. Please let us know if you are interested and prepare for a $10 fee to cover costs of materials. Everyone will get more than one project to finish and test their new skills on.
We look forward to seeing you all summer!
