Inaugural Little Hollywood Wild West Fest debuts September 10 - 12

KANAB – Kanab will celebrate its Western movie heritage September 10 - 12, with the inaugural Little Hollywood Wild West Fest, a three-day event featuring actors, stunt shows, live music and activities at locations around town.

The festival is organized by Hollywood stuntman Buck Montgomery, known locally as “Dr. Buck,” and comes after Kanab’s long-running Western Legends Heritage and Music Festival was discontinued.

Montgomery has worked as a stuntman, stunt coordinator and performer on Western film and television productions over a career spanning several decades. He has also staged Wild West shows and events and will perform with his Wild Bunch during the Kanab festival.

Scheduled guests include Rudy Ramos of “Yellowstone,” Peter Sherayko of “Tombstone,” Mitch Vogel of “Bonanza,” Darby Hinton of “Daniel Boone” and stuntman Diamond Farnsworth.

Daytime activities will include Wild West stunt shows, live music at the Gunsmoke Stage, children’s activities, a costume contest, beard and moustache contest, scavenger hunt and artisan and craft vendors. Cowboy poet Andy Nelson will lead cowboy poetry and storytelling at the Parry Lodge Barn, while the Kanab Center will host a quilt show. A library book sale is also planned.

Evening events begin Thursday at the Historic Redstone Theater with a screening of the 1993 Western “Tombstone.” Sherayko, who played Texas Jack Vermillion in the film, will be a special guest for the screening.

Friday evening will feature a panel discussion with festival guests, followed by a live old-time radio show, “Little Hollywood Rides Again!” featuring the Ricochet Radio Ranglers.

The festival concludes Saturday evening with a chuck wagon dinner with festival guests at Giff’s Barbecue.
