Daddy Daughter Dance springs forth with abundance of joy

During the early eventide on the first day of spring, the facilities for Valley High School’s “Back to the 70s” themed Junior Prom were richly enjoyed by fathers and daughters of all ages in a ‘happening’ under the supportive patronage of the Valley Elementary School Booster Club moms covering all the backstage departments, from DJ duties by Brittany Hoyt, to the clean-up crew contributions of Christy Barrick, Carole Heaton, Dusti Frost and Shalisse Sorensen.

Left to right:

  • Proud papa Russell Sharkey surrounded by his trio of multi-talented beauties, Harley, Sawyer and Kassidee, in front of the “Let’s Groove Tonight” entryway invitation “Back to the 70s” and the Junior Promenade environmental production of the renowned HAH’s (Jan Hoyt-Donna-Jill Hoyt).

  • Daddy Dustin with five of his Cox Family daughters (from L-R): Rachel, Emma, Rebekah, Ruth and Elizabeth. The sixth, Esther, will be home this year from her perilous Mission in Peru.

  • Reeling them in to “Fishin’ in the Dark” by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band from 1987. All photos by Jerry Melrose.

  • Daddy Lloyd Robinson with his daughters, one-year-young Eva and 15-year-old Naomi at the DISCO.

  • Lance and Charlotte Peterson out for a night on the town.

  • All-smiles eighth-grader, Gracie Cox, livin’-it-up for the evening with Fab Rats papa Paul.

As Shalisse describes it, “The Daddy Daughter Dance started, I want to say, probably 15 years ago; I’m not sure exactly. And It’s just grown. It started with about 50 people. And then, each year, it’s become bigger and bigger. And I think we’ve got about 250 now this year. And it’s just really fun, ‘cause the whole community comes out. The girls sometimes buy new dresses … like The Whole Event!

“And the moms are amazing as they’re bringing the food and providing the desserts. And then, just seeing the dads dance with their daughters all night is amazing. And the girls love it; they get to play with their friends, as well as dance with their dad, and feel ‘Special’ for the night. And, hopefully, it just continues to grow.”

Rest assured, if word gets around about the sheer pleasures shared on that most memorable night, there’ll be nothing to worry anyone ...
