Seniors invited to second annual Country Hoedown

KANAB — Kane County seniors are invited to enjoy an evening of food, music and dancing during the Kane County Council on Aging’s second annual Old-Fashioned Country Hoedown on Monday, August 4, from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Kanab Center Ballroom.
The free event is open to Kane County residents age 60 and older and is designed as a celebration of the community’s senior citizens. “We are excited to host our second annual hoedown where folks can come together for great food, live country music and plenty of dancing, all at no cost,” said Karla Johnson, chair of the Kane County Council on Aging. “It’s our way of saying thank you to the wonderful seniors who make our community so special.”
Guests will enjoy a ranch chicken dinner with all the fixin’s, along with live entertainment by the Baker Bunch. The evening will also feature yodeling by Gerta Palmer and cowboy poetry by Sam Jackson, Harold Hamblin and Laurali Noteman.
This year’s Grand Marshal is Mary Ann Swapp, who encourages attendees to embrace the western theme. “I’m honored to serve as this year’s Grand Marshal and look forward to making new memories with old friends and new neighbors,” Swapp said. “We’ll have lots of prizes, including awards for Best-Dressed Man and Best-Dressed Woman, so break out your favorite cowboy hats, boots, bandanas and fringe.”
Spencer Young returns as master of ceremonies for the evening. Thanks to the support of local businesses, the event is free for Kane County residents age 60 and older. Family members and caregivers under age 60 are welcome to attend with a suggested $10 donation. Western attire is encouraged, but not required.
