GLENDALE — On July 4, 2026, Glendale was honored with the oldest lady in the Valley representing the town as Grande Marshall of the parade and festivities. Clara Maxwell, 98 years young, was honored and loved by fellow townsmen. When asked about her special moment, she responded with a smile, “I am very honored to be recognized as the oldest living lady in the valley. It is such a blessing to get to this age. I hope I have been a good example to those around me.”

No question of the great example she had always shown. In 1951 Jack and Clara moved to Glendale and raised their family as they served in church, community, and home. Clara’s lovely singing voice was a part of the Glendale choir. Her talent extended to her children as their voices were heard in many gatherings, funerals and celebrations. The musical family came by it honestly, as their father was also a musician.
Clara claims 23 grandchildren, more than 60 greats and three great-greats. Clara’s hands and artistic eye have created numerous quilts for all her family members. She has been forced to slow down, as Gout has become a problem for her hands. However, she was very excited to report her hands were improving and almost ready to make quilts again.
The older ones experience life and the knowledge they have in store is ever enlightening. As the saying goes, always love and respect the aging. It is the highest privilege to be at the older age of experience, as everyone does not have that assured reality of reaching those elder years. Those who do hold profound wisdom, reminding us of the collective knowledge and experience of our blessed seniors.
