On Thursday, August 28, 2025, The Buckskin Tavern hosted a lively trivia fundraiser for the Kanab Animal Assistance Program (KAAP), attracting many people from the Kanab and Fredonia areas eager to support local critters in need.

Guests enjoyed delicious food and drinks while listening to live music from Blue Marbles, making the night both entertaining and meaningful. KAAP, which began in the summer of 2024, is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting pet owners in need of financial help for veterinary care, as well as spaying and neutering stray animals in and around the Kanab area. Its mission is to provide every animal with care while helping families stay together. The non-profit is solely vet owned and partially run by Dr. Tara Timpson and Dr. Patti Patterson. Looking ahead, KAAP hopes to eliminate the waitlist for grants and eventually open a local shelter.

There is no limit to area or species, so if you or someone you know is seeking assistance for their pet, you can contact kanabanimalassistanceprogram@gmail.com or call 435-899- 8007. To learn more, visit their website at www.kanabanimalassistanceprogram.org.

The event also highlighted the new direction of The Buckskin Tavern. Taylor Sandstorm, a retired firefighter, is one of the owners who took over management this past May. His main goal for The Buckskin is to keep it community-centered by hosting a wide variety of events—KAAP’s fundraiser being only the beginning.

Looking to the future, Taylor hopes to bring the community together with brunches, football watch parties, Dark Sky parties, a centennial celebration for The Buckskin’s 100th birthday, larger live bands, plays, and more. He also plans to support other causes through fundraisers for local police and fire departments. Meanwhile, renovations and expansions are underway, all while preserving the cowboy tavern theme that makes The Buckskin unique.
