Three Kanab High School students signed to various sports teams

On Tuesday May 16, at 2:30 p.m., parents and friends of several Kanab High School athletes gathered in the auditorium at the high school for a special event. Whereas it’s not unusual for one of the town’s high school athletes to sign a letter of intent to enter the sports program at a college or university, in this case three outstanding competitors would be doing so simultaneously.

Kanab High School Athletic Director Kade Glazier welcomed the crowd, featuring family, fellow students and fans, to celebrate the achievements of London Fenus, Madison Orton and Kason Janes. Coaches from their respective sports were on hand to say a few words as well.

Volleyball coach Kamie Houston lauded London Fenus’ hard work and dedication, noting that her efforts as a leader and competitor would be sorely missed in the program. London will be playing volleyball for Southwest Oregon Community College.

Coach Samantha LeFevre spoke about Madison Orton’s track and field achievements, pointing out her state and regional records and championships. Madison will be joining the athletic program at Southern Utah University.

Coach JR Quarnberg offered praise for Kason Janes’ contributions to Cowboy football, adding that his tireless team efforts meant as much on the field as off, and established him as a selfless leader in the program. Kason will be playing football at Southern Utah University.

Glazier said, “Some people think you just walk into a room and become great, but it’s so much more than that,” going on to predict that the hard work, focus, and sacrifice it takes to excel as an athlete will serve these seniors well in every part of their future endeavors.

Kanab High School principal Trevor Stewart thanked the students and their families for their dedication on behalf of the entire student body as family, friends and supporters snapped pictures of the signing in front of the stage.

Congratulations London, Madison and Kason. You’ve made Kanab proud!
