The annual local favorite Cowboy Classic tournament bounced off last Thursday and Friday welcoming three other teams to compete for the Classic championship. Richfield, North Sevier and Piute all made the trek in bad weather to join the Cowboys in a two-day ruckus of non-stop basketball. There was a Frosh, JV and Varsity tournament and Kanab faced off against North Sevier Wolves on Thursday, December 29. The Cowboys came out hot in the first quarter dropping in 24 points compared to the Wolves 15. Cowboys continued the onslaught and poured on the defense only allowing seven points in the second quarter and extending their lead to 44- 22 at halftime. The second half provided ample time for underclassmen to get some varsity time. Kason led the way inside with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kale Glover went four for five from three adding 14.

Beating the Wolves on Thursday, put the Cowboys into the championship against the Richfield Wildcats who won a nail-biter in overtime against the Piute Thunderbirds. The Cowboys had their work cut out for them against a wellbalanced Richfield team. The Cowboys led after two quarters by two, but a fourth quarter scoring drought hurt the Cowboys as they fell behind and could only muster five points in the final stanza, losing 57-47. Jordan Cornell added 21 points to lead the Cowboys, hitting five triples, but also taking five charges on the defensive end.
The Cowboys move to 9-2 on the season, starting region play be hosting the San Juan Broncos on Saturday, January 7, at 4 p.m.
