St. Patrick’s Day Penny Wars at Fredonia Elementary School

Fredonia Elementary School’s (FES) PTO kicked off its annual penny wars March 11-14. This year they decided to make it a bit more exciting by building the event around a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Students were given a heads up to begin saving their extra change to help build a pot of gold for their class.

Each class (teacher) was given a jar for students to drop their change (and bills) in each morning in the FES foyer. There were positive (pennies and dollar bills) and negative points (quarters, dimes and nickels.) Students put the positive points into their class jar and the negative points into another class’s jar. The students had an entertaining time dropping negative and positive coins into the jars.

In the end it was Mrs. Finicum’s fourth grade class that won with a monstrous 3,669 points. Second place went to Mrs. Crookston’s second grade class with a large total of 2,216 points. The penny wars raised an impressive $241.50. Awesome Job everyone!

FES wants to give an enormous shout out to Mary Cluff and Cathy Chell for putting together this fun and exciting event. We appreciate all the time and effort that you put in to make FES a great place! We also can’t forget about our amazing parents, thank you for all your support!
