Santa steps aside for student spirit: Kanab High’s holiday fundraiser is a great success

This holiday season, Kanab High School traded in reindeer and elves for a different kind of magic, the magic of giving. This year the KHS Student Council orchestrated a two-pronged fundraising effort that brought holiday cheer not just to our fellow students, but to the whole community.

First up was the Wheel of Misfortune Assembly, a hilarious spectacle where four brave souls from each class spent a week collecting donations. The pressure was on, as the three classes with the least dough faced the consequences: a dip in a vat of frosting, a chilly cascade of ice water, or another equally “festive” fate. Needless to say, laughter (and generosity) flowed freely!

But the fun didn’t stop there. The spirit of giving went on full display at the Holiday Auction, where community members and the Student Council put an assortment of treats, services, and experiences on the block. From Lisa Church’s legendary cookies and cinnamon rolls (a yearly highlight, thank you Lisa!) to a hot air balloon ride for two donated by the Kane County Office of Tourism, the bids kept coming.

And how did it all translate? In heartwarming fashion, the students raised nearly $4,000! This incredible sum wasn’t just about numbers; it was about making a real difference. Part of the proceeds went towards providing coats, shoes and other essentials for Kanab High students in need. The rest became a mountain of food and necessities for Kanab Care and Share, our local food bank.

It’s safe to say, Santa would be proud. This year’s Sub for Santa wasn’t just about presents; it was about showcasing the power of student initiative, community spirit, and pure holiday cheer. A big thank you to the KHS students and our amazing community for embracing the spirit of giving and making this year’s fundraiser a resounding success!

Merry Christmas, Kanab, and here’s to many more seasons of generosity!
