The six-week Health & Wellness Challenge, running from Monday, January 13, through Sunday, February 23, is designed to give every community member the opportunity to learn and experience the impact of positive lifestyle enhancements by focusing on attainable daily habits, new weekly challenge topics, and specific community engagement activities. Five age categories (5-12, 13- 18, 19-39, 40-59, 60+), with weekly top score prizes in each, aim to encourage all people to maintain participation. One Grand Prize drawing for an e-bike valued at $1,500 with service from Kanab eBikes will culminate the event from all participants who qualify with 10,000 steps daily and all six weekly challenges completed. Winners must be residents of the Kane County geographical area.
The focus on Health & Wellness includes physical health activities, mental health practices, and engagement in social connection, the third vital component. Each week, a bonus list of community activities includes both large community events and small gatherings, and invites attendance at the free HKCF Gardening classes (Monday, January 13, 27 and February 10) and new, free Tai Chi for Health classes every Wednesday evening during the challenge, January 15 – February 19, all held at 6 p.m., in the Ambulance Barn of Kane County Hospital, 93 W 300 N, Kanab. Please observe that while classes are available for adults and older children, minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Printed booklet/journals for tracking individual progress and free wrist pedometers will be available in preparation this week across Kane County:

Week #1 (January 13 - 19) Challenge will be “Focused breathing three minutes, twice daily” with daily habits including: expressing gratitude, going outside 10 minutes, eating two fruits and three vegetables, drinking sufficient water, and brushing teeth/flossing. Highlighted bonus community activities include: Garden class 13, Tai Chi for Health 15th, attending the Kanab Train Show (10th anniversary) 17- 18, as well as generalized options for joining activity classes, sport team practice/game, visiting an art show, visiting the Friday Open-Air Market, and recreational use of local parks, reservoir or trails.
Healthy Kane County Foundation is excited to provide this program to the community free of charge with supporting funds provided by Kane County. While all people may participate in the activities, only qualifying Kane County regional residents are eligible for prizes. Next week, HKCF will publish the QR code for reporting success scores at the completion of Week #1.
