Pigskin Predictions Week 4 - somehow things are getting worse, not better

Stage Stop’s Kenley Glover presents a $50 gift card to Tricia Spendlove. Spendlove considers this a double win, as her main goal is just to beat her brother Scott (and she did Scott, she did). Photo by Brooke Knighton.

For the second week in a row, the pickers have let me down. I thought it was a fluke. I thought you all just had a bad week, and that it would improve, but I was wrong. You are all in fact, getting worse.

Eleven out of 16 is all it took again to win this week and some of your tiebreaking guesses are straight out of a preschool math book (no offense April). I guess I’m going to have to start lobbing you all some softballs just to get your confidence back.

On the couples’ gridiron front we had a pretty even split between the men and women this week. Allison beat John 11- 10, Danielle beat Kris 10-8, Kerry beat Becca and Tracy beat John, but only thanks to a tiebreaker guess. Daniel beat Andrea 10-9, both Cassie beat Chris and Donnie beat April 9-8

It’s worth noting on the Father-Son front that Dennis Brunner is smoking youngest son, Cody. We weren’t going to say anything Cody, we know you’re at a disadvantage going up against the game’s founder. However, being the game’s founder, shouldn’t you have won a prize by now Dennis?

Anyways, back to the numbers, the pickers who all guessed 11 correctly and were in the running for a hot second before being tackled in the red zone were; Allison Bacialli, Gwen Stoner-Corson, Dan Fishbein, Joan Keller, Lane Sims, Tricia Spendlove, David Williams, and Jordan Willoughby.

Tricia Spendlove not only blew you all out of the water on her guessing, she was also the closest to the tiebreaker out of everyone for the week, leaving no chance for anyone to slide in and steal her thunder. Congrats on your prize worth $50 from Stage Stop Tricia, it was a rough one, but you Mac Jones’d your way through it (we’ll throw in a banana with your prize).

Second place this week was just short of the goal line by 3 points on the tiebreaker guess. Better luck next time Jordan Willoughby, you can bone up on your math skills while enjoying your second-place prize from Kanab Custom Meats!

Mason Roundy was the furthest off the tiebreaking guess. Better stay in school Mason, math is not your strong point.

Mr. Irrelevant was none other than ex-newspaper man himself Neal Brown. There’s more to this than just picking BYU to win each week Neal. Play yourself a sad song on that guitar, shake it off and get ready for this week. You can only hold off Chris Heaton for so long before he comes for his title again.

Another notable feat from Week 4 came from Jerry Hermansen who was the only person to predict Florida beating Texas. Jerry was on a roll for the first half of the bracket (an area that flat out stymied most of you) not only picking Florida, but predicting Commanders, Broncos and Titans as well. However, the elderly leatherhead ran out of steam in the second half, failing to predict BYU or the Lions.

We are halfway through pickers! Tighten up those cleats, hit the stat books, go with your gut not your heart and when in doubt, think what would Don Shula do?

A big thank you to all our sponsors and especially our Week 4 featured sponsors, Stage Stop and Kanab Custom Meats!
