Mail ballots go out on October 13 for November election
Kane County voters will begin receiving ballots this month for the November 3 general election, featuring county, congressional and legislative races, school board positions and two proposed constitutional amendments.
Ballots begin going out October 13. Utah’s regular registration deadline is October 23 at 5 p.m. Eligible residents who miss it may register and vote provisionally in person on Election Day with required identification.
Two Kane County Commission seats on this year’s ballot are contested. The county attorney, clerk/auditor, sheriff and two school board races each have one listed candidate. Vermillion Cliffs Special Service District voters may select up to five candidates from 10 contenders.
Accompanying graphics list candidates for Kane County offices, U.S. House District 3 and Utah House District 69, along with local school board and special district races. All Kane County voters may vote in the congressional and state House contests. School board and special district contests depend on the voter’s address.
Constitutional Amendment A would replace newspaper publication requirements for proposed amendments with publication as established by state law. The accompanying statute would require publication on the Utah Public Notice Website and lieutenant governor’s website for 60 days before the election.
Amendment B would require at least 60 percent voter approval for citizen-proposed laws increasing taxes, replacing a simple majority. Judicial retention questions also appear.
Kane County early voting runs October 20-23 and October 26-30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the clerk’s office, 76 N. Main St., Kanab.
Election Day polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the courthouse and Kane County North Event Center, 475 E. State St., Orderville. Drop boxes are at the courthouse and town offices in Alton, Big Water, Glendale and Orderville.
Ballots must be received by 8 p.m., on November 3. A postmark alone does not meet the deadline. Voters returning ballots by mail should allow sufficient time for delivery.
