Kanab faced off against San Juan, on Tuesday, October 19, in their final regular season game. It was senior night for Kanab’s two seniors Grayce Glover and Abbey Bateman. Glover has been Kanab’s starting setter the last three years and Bateman has been a starting middle hitter for the same amount of time. Coach Andrea Gilberg is grateful for their contribution to Kanab Volleyball. Both players have exemplified a standard of excellence that the younger players on the team follow. They are both tremendous athletes and have given their best effort to advance Kanab’s volleyball program.
The game got underway and was never in doubt from the first serve, as Kanab would take hold of the game and win in three sets 25-17, 25-17, 25-19.
Kanab had nine aces on the night, with two freshman leading the way as Emilie Gilberg tallied four aces and Savannah Bateman added two more.
The offense was led by Madi Orton, with 12 kills hitting a .114 on 35 attacks, while Abbey Bateman had six kills hitting a .043 on 23 attempts. Hadley Barnson had a strong night with four kills hitting a .400 on 10 attempts and Alivia Bundy had three kills hitting an outstanding .750 on just four swings. Glover racked up 29 assists for the game.
On the defensive side London Fenus and Anna Cutler had 14 digs apiece.
With the win, Kanab capped off the regular season and finished region play undefeated at 10-0 and 22-5 overall. The JV team was also able to get the win to finish the season at 14-2. The Frosh team completed the sweep and finished the season undefeated at 19-0!
Kanab will head to UVU in Orem for their first round match-up against Waterford at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October, 29. The winner of that game will then play again at 1:30 p.m. Games will then follow on Saturday, October 30.
