On Wednesday, June 11, the Kanab City Police initiated the arrest of an individual suspected of possession of child sexual assault materials, including pictures of an underaged female neighbor.
The suspect fled from the authorities, beginning a pursuit which resulted in a standoff, with the suspect concealed and believed to be armed. The KCPD requested aid from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, who deployed SWAT, negotiators and an armored vehicle. According to KCPD Chief Tom Cram, “It was tense. The suspect was agitated, and pursuit can elevate a situation … we were grateful for SWAT and the aid from the Sheriff’s Office.”
Said Kane County Sheriff Tracy Glover, “We supported KCPD on that call with the SWAT team and the armored vehicle to make sure our officers were safe … It was a complicated situation for a while, but it ended well.”
According to KCPD, after SWAT had been deployed and the vehicle support was visible, the suspect emerged from concealment and willingly turned himself in to authorities.
