About 50 people attended the gathering, where Chamber board member Nicholas Meyeres welcomed new and renewing members before introducing county and city leaders.

Kane County Commissioner Gwen Brown discussed development projects across the county, noting the lengthy process involved in bringing construction to unincorporated areas.

“It takes a lot of time, meetings and creating infrastructure to build in unincorporated areas of the county,” Brown said.

Among the projects she highlighted were the planned Discovery Center/visitor center near Zion National Park’s east entrance, along with the Zion Spirit and Hidden Canyon developments, which include plans for cabins and glamping accommodations. Brown also discussed Camp Kaia in Johnson Canyon and projects in Alton and Cedar Mountain.

County Land Use Administrator Shannon McBride said development activity surged in the years immediately following the COVID-19 pandemic but has since slowed.

Kanab City Manager Kyler Ludwig highlighted the openings of Ace Hardware and the Fairfield by Marriott hotel. He also discussed plans for a dollar store on the south end of town and a downtown taproom and craft brewery.

Ludwig said the Ventana resort development has submitted additional permit applications, while work continues at Catori Canyon.

Commissioner Celeste Meyeres closed the program with updates on developments at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim, the rockslide affecting Zion National Park and work on Sand Dunes Road.

The Chamber’s next luncheon is scheduled for November 12, in the Cascade Room at Kanab Center. Kane County School District Superintendent Ben Dalton and Kane Education Foundation Executive Director Calli Kelly will discuss the future workforce.

The monthly Chamber breakfast will be held on November 17, at 8 a.m., at Brown Box.
