Fredonia, Arizona, August 28, 2025 — Effective at noon today, the Kaibab National Forest is again updating the White Sage & Dragon Bravo Fires Temporary Closure, reopening an additional 77,000 acres of national forest lands west of Highway 67 and south of Highway 89A. Dragon Bravo Fire behavior continues to decrease, crews are making good progress on suppression repair efforts, and fire traffic has reduced in certain areas, enabling the Forest Service to reopen more areas without compromising public safety or fire operations.

The new closure area boundary includes Hwy 67 and a series of National Forest System Roads. It is important that visitors review full details and maps in the White Sage and Dragon Bravo Fires Temporary Closure Order.
In general, with a couple exceptions, most of the national forest lands west of Hwy 67 and north of FR 22 will be open. The public can access Kaibab Lodge and the North Rim Country Store via Hwy 67, which will be open as of noon, per the Arizona Department of Transportation. Big Springs Cabin is open for reservations. The southwestern portion of the closure is the same, with the Rainbow Rim open from Timp Point northward. The Jacob Lake Developed Area (Jacob Lake Inn, Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center, Jacob Lake campgrounds and picnic area, and Kaibab Camper Village) continues to be open.
Locations that will remain closed include: an area surrounding Kaibab Lodge and the North Rim Country Store; Demotte Campground; an area around Mile and a Half Lake; and all National Forest lands east of Hwy 67 and south of Forest Roads 205, 224, and 284.
The closure in the White Sage Fire area has not changed -- National Forest lands are open except Forest Roads 279A, 636,247, 248, 248A, 249, 249B and 9027, which were heavily impacted by the fire.
Visitors are urged to use caution in the reopened areas. Some hazards such as dead standing trees still exist, and flooding is possible even in areas that were not directly affected by the fire. Some of the area is still being used by crews and equipment.
As a reminder, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in effect across the entire Kaibab National Forest.
Information on forest closures, fire restrictions, and other general topics can be found on the Kaibab NF website, X, Facebook, or by calling the local ranger stations. For Dragon Bravo Fire information, visit Inciweb or call the Incident Management Team, 928- 268-5610 (8am-8pm).
