Although the season is over for the Lady Lynx softball team, they have a lot to be proud about! They had a great season and some great stats! The team had five players with a season batting percentage of .500 or better. The top three were Braxton Henderson with .580, McKenna Grover with .653 and the leader Mikelle Waters with .700. Grover also had four home runs, nine triples, seven doubles, 39 RBIs, 47 hits and 41 runs. Waters had four home runs, five triples, 17 doubles, 32 RBIs, 42 hits and 38 runs. Henderson had one home run, two triples, 13 doubles, 23 RBIs, 29 hits and 21 runs.
The team as a whole racked up 242 runs, 180 RBIs and ended with a .493 batting average. The girls tore up the base paths this year, stealing 162 bases. Waters leads with 29, followed by Grover with 27 and Charlie Anderson with 18. The pitchers on the team together struck out 107 batters, Henderson with 73 strike outs, 32 for Jacey Castor and two for Vasey Yellowhorse. The team had a fielding percentage of .968 and had six double plays on the season.
Coach Mike Waters had some thoughts, “It was a great season, unfortunately we were unable to pull off a win in the playoffs. The girls played great as a team this year and had a strong desire to win games! The seniors stepped it up this year with some hot bats and dang good throwing on the mound. In which, I feel gave the rest of the team the desire to rise and step up their game! I am really looking forward to next year with only two returning Juniors going to be seniors and leading this young team. I think you’ll see us making the top 16 in Arizona again and playing in the state playoffs!”
