Eleven-year-old causes property damage on a hijacked skid steer

KANAB, UT - On June 30, at approximately 6:15 p.m., police responded to a report of an 11-year-old male who had commandeered a skid steer parked behind Denny’s Wigwam with the keys left inside, that did not belong to him or his family.

He started it up and drove through a walk-in cooler, wreaking havoc on kitchen equipment and plowing through a fence, eventually calling it quits before law enforcement could arrive, causing an estimated $6000 worth of damage. Loud crashes and bangs could be heard throughout the vicinity of Main Street.


The boy left the area and was later contacted by police where he admitted to taking the skid steer and causing the damage. The 11-year- old will be referred to Juvenile Court for the theft of the skid steer and criminal mischief for the damage he caused.
