Cowboys take home and away games against Beaver

The Kanab Cowboys welcomed the Beaver Beavers to town with open arms and an open lariat on Tuesday, April 12. Griffen Bone took the mound to start for the Cowboys, and the Beavers struggled against the sophomore ace. He went six and two thirds inning, allowing only three runs and striking out 11, and walking one.

The Cowboys got their bats going early, scoring in the first inning off a Beaver error. They put up three more runs in the fourth inning to extend the lead, while eventually holding off the Beavers and securing the game with a 7-3 margin. Lane Sims and Bone led the way for the Cowboys with two hits apiece.

The Cowboys then followed up the home victory with a trip to Beaver country on Wednesday, April 13, before taking a few days off for Spring Break. The Cowboys found themselves in a closer battle on the road. They managed a killer inning in the fourth, scoring seven runs, behind RBI’s from Jaxon Riddle, Karson Blomquist, Sims, Bracken McQuivey and Bone.

The boys’ bats were hot, but so were the Beavers in a game where the Beavers collected 17 hits to the Cowboys 15 hits. The Beavers pitched a late inning comeback scoring three runs late, but came up just short as the Cowboys were able to hold onto the victory by a score of 10-9. McQuivey got the start and went three and twothirds inning, allowing six runs on seven hits. RJ Mognett and Bone each were on fire, adding three hits apiece.

The Cowboys continue this week at Milford on Tuesday, April 19, then welcome the Milford Tigers to Kanab, on Friday, April 22.
