An Ace Hardware store is moving forward in Kanab following city approval of a site plan for a 26,000-square-foot building at 850 South Highway 89A. The project, reviewed by the Kanab Planning and Zoning Commission on May 6, 2025, will include 87 parking spaces, new access points to the highway, and adjustments to meet city lighting and fire safety standards.

According to city records, the property is zoned commercial and sits north of the Lofts apartments and across from Plum Tree Drive on the west side of the highway. Developers revised lighting plans from 4000K to 3000K to comply with Kanab’s dark-sky ordinance. The project also requires two approved entrances, landscaping areas and a nearby fire hydrant that meets code distance requirements.
The city is working with the developer to finalize easements and infrastructure connections, including road improvements, drainage, and utility hookups. No timeline for construction or completion has been announced.
Some residents have raised questions about how a new hardware chain might affect local businesses, while others have welcomed the additional retail option. Nearby, Lumber Plus continues to undergo a 7,000- to 10,000-squarefoot expansion and transitioning its supplier partnership from True Value to Do it Best.
The new Ace Hardware will join a growing commercial corridor along Highway 89A, which has seen steady development over the past few years. Final permits and construction details are expected to be filed later this year.
