A pickup truck rolled over on Sunday, March 2, on the return trip down from the Ranchos water tower near the Bunting trailhead. According to reports from the family of the vehicle occupants involved, the vehicle’s brakes failed on the trail slope, at which point the driver attempted to turn the vehicle off the slope. Due to the speed and incline preceding the turn, the vehicle began to roll and made multiple turns which collapsed the passenger side of the cabin before settling on its wheels at a more level portion of the slope.

EMS deployed multiple ambulances along with other rescue responders to the scene. Two of the adolescents were transported to the Kane County Hospital by ambulance and the third in a private vehicle; the driver and one passenger with minor to moderate injuries, and the third passenger with multiple spinal fractures.
Says the mother of one of the three injured teens, “I am grateful to still have all three kids here with us today, and I’d like to give a big thank you to all of the people involved with helping the kids … good Samaritans, all the emergency workers, doctors, nurses … all the family and friends. Thank you for all the love, support and prayers in this stressful situation. We love all of you!”
All three occupants have been released from the hospital, with the side passenger being closely monitored for symptoms associated with the spinal injury but otherwise safe to be released to recover at home.
