There's Christmas in the air

by Kortney Stirland

As the thanksgiving weekend fades from our priority list, we anticipate the sights, sounds and tastes of the 2021 Christmas season. Symphony of the Canyons would like to kick off your holidays with a week of festivals, food and two great concerts.

We have staged what has become a holiday treat in Kanab for over 30 years. Sadly, it’s been two years since we staged our event. We intend to make up for a lost year in 2021, in grand style.

Here is the list of activities you won’t want to miss:

  • December 4: Christmas Festival at the Kanab Middle School from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. There will be the opportunity to win gift baskets, which are donated from some of the awesome businesses in this area. Vendors will be present to give you some great early shopping opportunities and, as always, continuous entertainment from many talented performers with your favorite Christmas music.

  • December 10: The Christmas dinner starts at 5 p.m., at the Kanab Center. A gourmet meal will be served by Chef Shon Foster and Sego. Tickets are $40 per person. Enjoy your dinner sitting at a spectacular table designed by our local artisans with entertainment by Symphony musicians and an appearance from our incredible high school choir, X-Press!

  • December 10 – 11: A full production of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet, featuring Symphony of the Canyons, Red Rock Dance Academy and Studio 12 dancers and featuring students from the KHS theater department. Over 150 people are involved in what may be the first full production of Nutcracker in our area. Lighting and scenery will be on a professional level. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for youth up to age 18.

Demand will be high, so hurry and get your tickets early! You can purchase them online at symphonyofthecanyons.org, at Zion Pharmacy or at the door. The concert begins at 7 p.m., at the Kanab High School auditorium.

Please check our website and place your high bid for our silent auction items. Gift certificates, two hand-built sleighs, and a dream box from our wonderful scrapbook manufacturing plant in Fredonia.

Come to one event or all of them; you won’t be disappointed. You may have the best Christmas you’ve ever had!
