Celebrating their 39th season under founding Director Kortney Stirland, The Symphony of the Canyons is preparing for their annual Spring Concert, “Back to the Basics,” with a delightful array of music from the Masters. Bizet, Bach, Mozart, Stravinsky, and Schubert are a few of the composers whose music will be featured. You’ll also enjoy “Finlandia” by Jean Sebelius and Hummel’s “Concerto for Trumpet & Orchestra” with the talented Alex Moore as the trumpet soloist. Additional numbers will feature the harpsichord and clavier.
The concert is free and takes place on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m., in the Kanab High School Auditorium. Please join us for a wonderful evening of great music performed by your friends and neighbors.
Future concerts this year will include sponsorship and participation in the semi-annual community musical the first week in August, Annual Summer Concert in late August, North Rim of the Grand Canyon Concert in September, and a repeat of our enormously popular Nutcracker Ballet in December. Watch the paper for soon to be published dates.
The symphony is a nonprofit organization and is supported by generous donations from area businesses, private donors, and the Kane County Office of Tourism. The all-volunteer orchestra is made up of talented musicians from the region, many of which have been with the organization for years. We are always looking for additional talented players.
