School Board District 3 vacancy prompts write-in race

With School Board District 3 representative Lisa Livingston choosing not to run again at the conclusion of her four-year term, and with no competitor running against her for the elected position, a pair of write-in candidates have begun campaigning to fill the seat.

District 3 residents Taylor Glover and James Wendell Head each applied for write-in candidacy - neither name will appear on a ballot, requiring voters to be familiar with their respective candidates beforehand and to manually submit the name on voting day.

Both candidates offered a brief statement on their motivations for running for the position. Stated Head, “I decided to run for the Board of Education when I recently learned that Lisa Livingston, an incumbent fiscal conservative, decided to withdraw from the upcoming election. Most forms of government are beset with unsustainable spending habits. My mission will be to do more with less.”

Glover stated, “A pivotal chapter of my life was defined by the transformative and positive experiences I had in the Kane County School District. I’m running with a commitment to give back to the community and … to provide future generations with the same exceptional opportunities and support that made such a difference in my life.” Glover listed school safety, extracurricular activity funding, low property taxes and academic success as his priorities.

Livingston gave her blessing to the upcoming candidates, stating, “I wish them both well and hope the Kane County School Board finds success in working with the students, families and taxpayers in the area.”
