Pigskin Predictions, Week 1; Gilberg takes number one spot, Gifford has to settle for number two

Well, Pigskinners we are in it for another year. Each another year older and only some of us another year wiser. (It’s early, I’m not naming any names … well, I probably will.)

What I will say, is that 15 out of 16 isn’t too bad for a week one win, and that is exactly what it took to take home the grand prize this week.

Daniel Gilberg, the ol’ Pigskin Pro, was able to successfully predict 15 out of 16 of our games correctly, only missing the Jets win over the Titans (and really who could blame him, the vast majority of you players messed that one up, myself included.)

Congrats to Daniel, who won the coveted $50 grand prize from Honey’s Marketplace! (Don’t spend it all in one trip Daniel. I’m pretty sure they don’t sell Cougar Tails there.)

The real barn burner came in the second-place race. Ten of you were able to successfully predict 14 out of 16 games correctly, but alas, only one of you paid attention in math class and were under 100 points from the tiebreaking total.

When the mathematical dust settled, it was Darren Gifford who was our runner-up for the second place $25, prize, courtesy of Best Friends Animal Society. Congrats Darren! You can pick up your prize at the Southern Utah News Office. (Both you and the Steelers got the win this week, better enjoy you got it, that luck can’t last.)

While Darren’s guess was only 85 points off the tiebreaking total, Scott Pratt wins bragging rights for only being 16 points off in the tiebreaker category. However, Scott only guessed 10 games correctly, so it doesn’t do you much good to have a Hall of Fame kicker, when you can’t get the ball into the end zone in the first place, huh Scott?

But at least he didn’t do as bad as Becca Glover, who won this week’s title of Ms. Irrelevant with only 10 games correct and an even lower tiebreaker guess. (It’s early in the season Becca, I won’t say what it was, but I would avoid Andrea for a while if I were you.)

In other news, I will give props to Wyatt Orton (welcome to the game Wyatt) for showing his work on his tiebreaker guess, but I really don’t need to see what you think the scores of each individual game will be. No bonus points awarded.

Some of you need to make up your minds prior to filling in your entry form. Between all the scribbling out of teams and re-writing them in, I feel like I’m grading preschool artwork (April knows what I’m talking about).

I need to all to channel your inner Kerry Glover, who is so confident in his predictions he writes them all in cap … in marker … every week. (He’s wrong most of the time, but he’s confident)

I would also like to welcome our newcomers to the game this year, it’s great to have fresh blood in the mix, as well as extend a ‘welcome back’ to our returning players. Some of you it’s good to see again, others will make these eight weeks drag on longer than the 49’s injured reserve list these past few years.

But I digress, welcome back players, let the picking begin! Good luck.
