LeChe’e Community receives quilt and blanket donation

Members of the women’s quilting group of New Promise Lutheran Church in St. George, Utah, donated handmade quilts to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in St. George. Members of the Links Subdivision in Washington City also donated fleece blankets. The two groups worked together and asked that the donation go to needy elderly members of the Navajo Nation.

Kim Clark, chair of the American Indian Committee at the DAR Color Country Chapter in St. George contacted the LeChe’e Chapter House and asked if there would be a need for the blankets in their community. Renee Tsosie, Manager at the Chapter House, confirmed that there was a great need, especially since this has been a remarkable cold winter. With the cost of fuel rising the need for blankets was as great as ever.

The two groups donated a total of 18 quilts and five fleece blankets and asked that they benefit those in need. Tsosie asked the community for names of people who might be in need and arranged for community members to receive the quilts and blankets. The Community Health Representative and Chapter staff delivered warm covers to the community. According to Tsosie, “Most elderly Navajo people don’t show much emotion when getting their pictures done … but they are all grateful for the blankets.”
