With the Active Living Center (ALC) in Kanab under construction, the staff behind various senior services in the county are busy finding other ways to continue and expand those services while the facility is out of commission.

Per Jerica Bauer, Director of the county’s Active Living Centers, “We are offering a bus from Kanab to Valley. It was very well received … with nine of the 14 seats filled [that day.] The driver does pick ups for those seniors that don’t have transportation to their local center, and those that can meet the bus at the center meet at the senior center parking lot at 11:15 a.m. The other option we offer is pick up lunches at the Kanab Active Living Center, also well received … it’s fun to see the Valley Center so full! And great to see Kanab and Valley residents dine together. We love them all.”
The bus to transport from Kanab to Valley has shown consistent attendance, with a few regulars between those who board at the Kanab ALC and those who are scheduled for the bus to pick up, and while there has been some concern of late regarding the consistent quality of the meals with changing staff, reports have been giving good feedback for the meals.
The Valley Location is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the active living centers are continuing their meal delivery services. They have asked for interested individuals to make reservations at least 24 hours in advance by calling (435)644-4321; the same number can be used for questions and feedback, as well as to schedule other Active Living Center services such as delivered meals, to-go lunch pickups, shopping trips and travel activities. In a previous press release, the ALC also promised to find places for classes and activities to continue on schedule, and the centers provide schedules to the newspaper as well.
