At university, Dr. Tara majored in Animal Science, earning her Bachelor of Science from Utah State University in 1999. Originally from Utah, she moved to Oregon to study veterinary medicine at Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine, with an emphasis in mixed animal practice. She graduated, with honors, in 2003.

After graduating, Dr. Tara accepted a position in rural Southern Oregon working with both small and large animals providing medical, surgical and emergency care for horses, cattle and domestic pets. She was also responsible for developing the llama and alpaca aspect of the practice.

In 2006, Dr. Tara relocated to Kanab, Utah, joining the veterinary team at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. By virtue of the complex variety of some 1,500 animals that call Best Friends their home, Dr. Tara’s skills have deepened and broadened exponentially over the past 16 years. Over the course of time, she has provided medical and surgical care for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, horses, mules, donkeys, sheep, goats and potbellied pigs.

She is certified in Veterinary Homeopathy, Veterinary Acupuncture and Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (Animal chiropractic). Dr. Tara has delivered numerous professional presentations on the subject of holistic veterinary medicine and had papers published in various veterinary journals.

To unwind and relax, Dr. Tara enjoys music, particularly playing bluegrass music with her husband Josh. She plays the guitar, fiddle, mandolin and banjo. She loves trail running, hiking and backpacking, playing with her dog and training/ riding her three horses. Please give a huge welcome to Dr. Tara Timpson!
