Over 260 participants gathered at Jackson Flat Reservoir the morning of Thanksgiving to walk, jog and run in the seventh annual Kanab Turkey Trot sponsored by the Kane County Water Conservancy District and Kanab City Recreation.

  • And they’re off at the start of the seventh annual Kanab Turkey Trot.

  • Bryson LeFevre (age nine) was this year’s token Turkey that runners had to catch in order to win a prize. He taunted the runners beforehand by yelling, “Eat Ham! Save a Turkey!”

  • Kanab local Jane Glazier and her family sporting some festive turkey hats during the race.

Pies were given out to the top finishers in each age category and gift cards were awarded to the first 10 runners to catch the token turkey runner. The overall winner this year was Kanab’s own Mason Roundy, followed by another Kanab local Levi Clarkson. Nathaniel Driggs of Oak Park, California rounded out the top three. Other top runners from each age category hailed from Rigby, Idaho; Flagstaff, Arizona; Fredonia, Arizona; San Ramon, California; Layfayette, Colorado; Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Saratoga Springs, Utah; Fort Worth Texas; Port Angeles, Washington; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.

All participants enjoyed hot chocolate and donuts as they visited pre- and post-race. All proceeds went to the Kanab High School Track and Cross-Country Programs who set up and timed the event. It was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday and a big thanks goes out to all the sponsors and participants.
