Celebrate National Public Lands Day September 26
In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, this year’s theme for National Public Lands Day is “Caring for our Shared America.” Held annually on the fourth Saturday of September, National Public Lands Day is the largest single day volunteer event for public lands in the United States. This year the volunteer efforts have been expanded to run from September 12 through October 10.

Volunteers throughout the United States pick up trash, plant native trees, perform habitat restoration, repair trails and enjoy our National Parks, National Monuments, National Forests and Bureau of Land Management recreation areas.
Organized by the National Environmental Education Foundation, this event began in 1994 with just one agency and 700 participants. It has now expanded to include all national public lands and utilizes hundreds of thousands of volunteers annually.
To celebrate this occasion, members of Adopt A Trail-Kanab and The Kanab Cycling Club repaired trail damage on the Tilted Mesa Trail system. This year’s monsoons have created trail tread damage while also bringing a slew of harmful weeds.
Adopt-A-Trail-Kanab operates under the direction of Dan Gunn, Outdoor Recreation Planner, Bureau of Land Management Kanab Field Office. To volunteer or for more information contact Susan Johnston at onthebeatenpath@yahoo.com or join their Facebook page at Adopt-A-Trail Kanab.
