Wan Mackelprang
December 14, 1935 – December 14, 2024

Wan Mackelprang, 89, Litchfield Park, Ariz., passed away on December 14, 2024.
He was born in Kanab, Utah, on Dec. 14, 1935, ironically the same date as his deceased date. A cowboy at heart he made a career of cattle ranching for Ward Ranch where he received a Range management award from the state of Arizona. He was also a proud member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He had a passion and an eye for quality horses.
Wan is survived by his daughter Michele Schimmel (Mackelprang) and grandchildren Cole Schimmel, Ashton Schimmel, Brent Bushong, Blake Bushong, Abbie Bushong, a sister Frankie Hawley and son in law Glen Bushong.
He was proceeded in death by brothers Larry and Sandle Mackelprang and a daughter Julie Bushong who passed one day before her father.
Wan landed in Glendale where he stole the hearts of those who knew him. As a true patriot he loved his country and served two years in the Army. A great friend, neighbor and a good honest cowboy, he spoke freely of his love for his family. He spoke of them often with a sense of pride for his loved ones.
“Some old cowboys into your life, build enduring relationships, then ride away leaving a legacy of a life well lived and memories that live on.”
Wan’s final ride will bring him back to his Glendale people, as he desired to return home. Welcome home wan. You are loved. Hope you found that cattle ranch of your dreams as you crossed the great divide.
Military service for Wan Mackelprang will be held at the Glendale Utah Cemetery on May 9, 2025, at 2 p.m.
