Just days after her 66th birthday, Terasa Leigh Johnson Pratt passed away at Banner University Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, after a brief illness. Terasa was born in Quantico, Virginia, to Major Warren H. Johnson and Cora Lee Tompkins Johnson. The first of five girls born to Warren and Cora, she was always affectionately known as Tess.
As a daughter of a Marine, Tess and her family moved often. She was raised in Virginia, North Carolina, California, Minnesota and Washington. Tess graduated in 1978 from Naselle High School in Washington, where she was senior class president. She stayed in the Pacific Northwest cruising around in her MGB convertible for a couple more years before joining her parents and sisters that had moved to Utah.
In the summer of 1984, Tess married Wade Pratt. Wade’s employment with El Paso Natural Gas took them all over the southwest, but Tess didn’t mind, she loved the warm climate. The couple soon welcomed their daughter, Jennifer Louise. Their son Jacob Ernest followed 18 months later. Although Tess struggled with her health, she loved supporting her children in all their sporting activities. Tess and Wade later divorced, but were thrilled to welcome the addition of three grandsons, Gregor, Asher and Hudson.
Tess was incredibly good with computers and loved being in customer service. She enjoyed visiting and laughing with people and made friends wherever she went. At a young age, Tess learned to always be working on something. She was skilled at embroidery, crocheting and sewing. Gifts to her family were often handmade. Tess also loved to play video games and usually had a handheld player close by.
You didn’t ever see Tess without her refillable jug of Diet Pepsi and some ice to crunch on. She loved citrus flavored desserts. She didn’t necessarily love to cook, but a good pound cake recipe was hard for her to pass by.
Tess loved to laugh and was always good at finding something to giggle about. She loved her music from the 70s and 80s. Tess loved life and could find enjoyment in the simple things. She loved sharing her passions and hobbies with her family.
Tess is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Dave) Perkins, of Overton, Nevada, son Jacob (Angela) Pratt, of Peoria, Arizona, and her three grandsons. She is also survived by her younger sisters, Erica Rich of Weston, Idaho, Leiza (Brad) Povey of Clifton, Idaho, Brenna Steed of Casper, Wyoming and Dana (Jared) Chiara of Price, Utah.
Terasa Leigh was preceded in death by her parents. Honoring her request, there will be no memorial or funeral services at this time.
