Julia Clorene Hoyt
April 5, 1935 – January 10, 2025

Julia Clorene Hoyt passed away on January 10, 2025, in Kane County Hospital at the age of 89. She was born on April 5, 1935, in Alton, Utah. Clorene was the first of 12 children born to Horace and Lorena Roundy. There were six boys and six girls in her family.
Her early years were spent growing up in Alton. She was fond of telling us about helping her dad milk 13 cows every morning before school. They took the milk out to the highway and met the mail truck, sending it on to Panguitch to sell. They used the milk money for lunch money.
She attended Orderville High School, and following graduation, went to Cedar to attend college. After completing one year, she met and married Errol Hoyt on July 15, 1954, in the St. George Temple. Their family was blessed with six children.
Clorene did return to college in Cedar City, with four little girls, then on to Logan three years later, with a new baby boy, to complete her degree in Home Economics at USU. She went to teach two years in Enterprise, Utah, and then two years in Fredonia, Ariz. While they were in Fredonia, they built a new home that she loved!
Her teaching career did not end there. She continued to teach numerous sewing classes, 4-H classes and Food Sense classes for Kane County Extension. She worked at Pipe Spring National Monument giving tours and telling the history of the area. She completed her working years at the Heritage House in Kanab, giving tours and telling about its history. Her children and grandchildren were frequent visitors, who often helped her close up for the night.
She was an accomplished seamstress and handwork expert. Her family were the recipients of her many quilts, crochet baby booties and dresses. She made numerous outfits for her girls, including their prom and wedding dresses.
Clorene was preceded in death by her husband, Errol; her parents; four sisters: Florence, Gwenda, Judith and Rayda; one brother, Vern; two sons-in-law: Joe Meiner and Bill Barton; along with three grandsons: Brandon Hawkins, Rusty Meiner and Derrick Hoyt.
She is survived by her children RaJan Meiner (Jerry Perkins) of Fredonia, Julie Rae Hawkins (Ed) of Blanding, Utah, Suzie Clark (Terry) of Henrieville, Utah, Charrena Barton of St. George, Utah, Carlon Hoyt of Fredonia, and Kelly Hoyt (Misty) of Santaquin, Utah; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren, with one more great-grandchild coming in April.
Funeral services will be held on January 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the Alton LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing Friday, January 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Mosdell Mortuary in Kanab, and a viewing Saturday morning from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel.
At this time we would like to express our thanks to all those who have contributed to her final celebration of life. Thank you!
